The competitive nature of Free For All racing allows for no room for error and Wagga’s top grade sprint on Friday promises to be a combative affair.
The Ladbrokes Cash In Stake (320m) is Race 6 on the 11-strong card and Lorraine Roy’s Choice Chance (Box 6) heads a quality line-up which, collectively, boasts 105 career wins from 352 starts – a tidy 23.70% strike rate.
Adept from wide boxes, Choice Chance returned to best form with a comfortable four lengths win at Wagga on October 1 and followed with a sharp 19.70s effort at Goulburn seven days later.
Nine of Choice Chance’s 16 wins have been collared from wide boxes (6, 7 and 8) and genuine early dash is her calling card.
At Goulburn the daughter of Barcia Bale quickly led from box three and, after a brief tussle with Mac Olga into the straight, she came away to score by two lengths.
Track specialists Oliver Izmir (Box 1) and Tranquil Gypsy (3) will, however, provide stern competition.
At their most recent meeting, Tranquil Gypsy was well held when second (four lengths away) to Choice Chance at Wagga on October 1 in 18.23s, yet the San Isidore-based Tranquil Gypsy is an 11-time winner at the track and has missed a place in only nine of 29 outings over 320m.
Oliver Izmir, while also a winner at Lismore, Temora and Casino, has registered nine of his 16 wins at Wagga's 320m. He’s a five-time winner at the track in FFA company yet, in five outings from box one has not managed a win.
His task is by no means easy but Friday might just be the night Oliver Izmir breaks his rails alley ‘duck’.
