Richardson On Another Highway With That’s My Guy

By Peter Davis
Utterly dominant was That’s My Guy in his debut win at Dapto on October 7.

The all-the-way offering at the famous Showgrounds site came against quite moderate opposition, yet the manner by which he bounded away to score by just over eight lengths in 30.12s was pleasing to the eye.

The bold-going red brindle son of 2016 Golden Easter Egg winner Moreira is locally prepared by Judy Richardson and it’s a line that breeder Garry Cluse and the Richardson family have had great success with.

That’s My Guy’s dam Sunburnt Opal won 13 races including 29.91s and 29.86s at Dapto yet her litter brother Sunburnt Highway holds all the aces in sibling rivalry.

Sunburnt Highway won his 30th race at Wentworth Park on October 9, his 42 second overall and extended earnings to a remarkable $304,975.

On Saturday, Sunburnt Highway contests the $10,000 to-the-winner Ladbrokes Masters Final (520m) and his clash with 2019 Million Dollar Chase winner Good Odds Harada will be a beauty.

At Dapto, That’s My Guy makes the step from maiden company to Grade Five, and that hurdle is often difficult to handle.

That’s My Guy, however, has only moderate beginners stationed to his outside and, given a clean start from the two alley, he can be in a striking position at the first turn.

Both Ashby Duchess (Box 5) and Cumbria Days (6) have a turn of speed - yet That’s My Guy has genuine upside and with clear running, he can make it two from two – with just 39 required to match his ‘uncle’ Sunburnt Highway.

The first of 10 races at Dapto gets underway at 7.10pm.
