Big Night With Peter Mosman & Vic Peters Heats

By Jeff Collerson
She's Salacious gave her rivals a galloping lesson to notch her eighth win in a dozen starts on Wednesday night at Wentworth Park but trainer Peter Sims has declared her sister She's A Pearl as being quicker on the eve of Saturday night's heats of the group 1 Peter Mosman Opal.

She's Salacious, who has box three in heat one, clocked a flying 29.88 on Wednesday while She's A Pearl, who will exit box six in heat two, found trouble and was beaten three lengths into third place in 30.21.

"She's A Pearl is definitely quicker but She's Salacious is probably a better race bitch,'' Sims said.

"She's A Pearl's box speed can be better too but she tends to make mistakes in her races while She's Salacious is just about foolproof in that regard.

"Just the same, She's A Pearl has the ability to make up for anything she does wrong.''

She's A Pearl has had five wins and six placings from 13 starts and her ability to handle a wide draw gives her strong claims on Saturday night.

Sarah Easey has been setting her greyhounds Cosmic Boom and Aussie Cortis for Saturday night's group 1 Vic Peters Classic heats and is thrilled to see them both starting from box one.

Cosmic Boom has drawn the rails in heat three while Aussie Cortis will wear the red rug in heat four.

"I'm blessed!'' exclaimed trainer Easey when each of her greyhounds came up with the prized inside alley.

"Cosmic Boom and Aussie Cortis have not raced at Wentworth Park but have had a few trials there so know their way around the track.

"They have gone well and handled the course nicely so if they jump out cleanly and repeat the times they have been clocking in trials they both have a good chance.''

Two other well performed Wentworth Park newcomers contesting the Vic Peters heats are Mickey Doo, who has box seven in heat two, and Falcon Fly, who will exit box four in heat five.

Mark Davidson, trainer of Mickey Doo (pictured), who has won seven of 11 provincial starts, said: "My dog has had two looks at Wenty and in his second trial, a box-to-box hit-out, he clocked a first split of 5.48 and ran 17.97 down back straight.

"I was very happy with that but his problem is he tends to come out well in trials but is inclined to miss the kick on race night.

"When he is kennelIed I think he works himself up and gets too excited because in races he stands up in the boxes and I've worked over-time trying to get him to crouch down when the lure approaches.

"In all the time he has raced I think I have only seen his nose once.

"But while Mickey Doo has never drawn an inside alley I think he is boxed okay in seven on Saturday.''

Falcon Fly's trainer Paul Steedman was not enthusiastic about his dog's WP experience.

"I gave him a box-to-box trial and he didn't handle the track at all, he wanted to run off on the bend,'' Steedman said.

"Falcon Fly has won six from 16 but he might be one of those dogs which need a couple of runs at Wenty before showing their best form.''
