FFA Sprint Highlights 11-Race Card

By Peter Davis
Following a three-week break for the annual Wagga Show and programmed equestrian competition, greyhound racing at Wagga gets back to usual programming on Friday.

Unfortunately, NSW Health orders prevented the Show from being held and a straight swap on dates was arranged with the Wagga Greyhound Club for November 5.

“The Show has moved to early November … that date was swapped so that we race here on Friday and it’s good to be back,” WWGRC Secretary John Patton said.

“Trialling sessions have continued since we last raced on August 27 and trainers supported the club with strong nominations.”

Wagga’s 11-race program is highlighted by a competitive, compelling Free For All sprint over 320m - Race Eight on the card and finding the winner is a challenge!

Charming Meeka (Box 6) arrives at the track for the first time after a solid 17.83s win at Bathurst on September 6 and takes on the best short-course sprinters in the region.

Her seven rivals boast 43 wins at the track over 320m with Got A Group meeting three rivals she accounted for at Wagga's last meeting (August 27) in a solid 18.27s.

Got A Group has registered eight wins and 12 placings from 22 starts and, for the first time, comes up with box eight.

Her record from middle and outside boxes is very good but there is no room for error this time.

Rod Oakman’s rising four-year of Tranquil Gypsy (Box 5) boasts 19 career wins all at Wagga with 11 being posted at Friday’s sprint trip.

Despite approaching 'veteran' class and ideally positioned closer to the inside, Tranquil Gypsy is racing in career best form and is sure to attract solid support.

The first race at Wagga gets underway at 5.49pm.
