Record Breaking Estrella Chasing A Win This Time

By Jeff Collerson
Super Estrella's name won't appear in the record books but she smashed the 10-year-old Richmond 717m record last Sunday.

Only problem was Super Estrella, whose time of 41.49 was well inside Blue Lorian's 41.66 time standard established in April, 2011, was run down and beaten a length by Miss Ezmae who stopped the clock at 41.42.

Super Estrella pulled up well after her scorching Richmond time and is raring to go in Saturday night's $5000 to the winner GRNSW Stayers Series at Dapto.

"Miss Ezmae was too good but Super Estrella kept getting off on the bends and giving the winner plenty of room on the rails,'' trainer David Smith said.

"Super Estrella won in 43.31 at her only Dapto 729 start and I expect her to go close on Saturday night.''

Hardest for Super Estrella to beat look to be her kennelmate Prim And Proper, who has won three 720m races at WP, and the Allan Manwaring-trained My Margarita, whose past 10 starts over middle and long distances have resulted in five wins and three seconds.

The Dapto 729m record of 42.78 was set in January, 2018, by White Sox Ethics, a greyhound owned by Smith but who was trained by Peter Mantach.

Zipping Niseko, winner of this year's group 3 WP Gold Cup over 720m, returns in Saturday's 520m @Daptog on twitter Stakes, a 520m fourth and fifth grade.

"I am working her up to have her ready for the $100,000 Sydney Cup over 720m at WP next month,'' trainer Jason Magri said.

"Obviously 520m is a bit short for her but early in her career she won each of her two starts over that distance at Dapto and although she has not raced since early July, Zipping Niseko is trialling well.''

Magri's Zipping Ventura will be a warm favourite for Saturday's Watch Live on Sportsbet Stakes, a 600m mixed graded event.

Zipping Ventura had box one when he finished powerfully to win over 535m at Richmond on August 13 in a slick 30.65.

"Zipping Ventura has his favourite draw again, box one, but he has been a little disappointing in his past couple of trials.

"He may not be going quite as well as he was but should still be hard to toss from the rails alley,'' Magri said.

Most enthralling clash of Saturday's Dapto meeting should come when Hardaway Harada and Sizzle Fly meet in the open class 297m Sportsbet Bet With Mates Stakes.

Hardaway Harada, who has box one, has been beaten in just three of 13 outings wearing the red rug.

The Ron Marsden-trained dog is chasing his 38th win in 73 appearances on Saturday night, but Sizzle Fly is capable of extending him.

Sizzle Fly's fastest Dapto time of 16.71 is .06sec quicker than Hardaway Harada's personal best figures.

And Sizzle Fly's trainer Andrew Bell is happy seeing his greyhound in box seven.

"Sizzle Fly seems to begin better from wide draws and he prefers being on the outside of his rivals than squashed up on the rails,'' Bell said.

"Sizzle Fly has not long returned from a back muscle injury and with another run under his belt I think he can get down to the low 16.60s at Dapto.''

Javen Bale should only need to begin reasonably well in the Ryan's Cleaning Service Stakes, a 297m fifth grade, to notch his second win since coming to NSW from Victoria.

Javen Bale defeated the highly regarded Insane Fury when he won a 400m Bulli race in a handy 22.69 in August but bungled the jump when second at Dapto on September 9.

After being last away In the Dapto 297m race Javen Bale swept around the outside of the field to be second in the middle stages but was beaten nearly four lengths in 17.12.
