Drop In Class Suits Supersonic

By Jeff Collerson
Supersonic Blue has Chased home TAB Million Dollar Chase winner Handsome Prince and Here Comes Joe, a winner of 19 races, at his past two starts so should relish a sharp drop in class at Bulli on Wednesday night.

The Robert Hancock-trained speedster has box five in race nine, a 400m fourth and fifth grade, after finishing second to Handsome Prince at his Bulli debut on July 28.

Supersonic Blue also drew box five in that event but handled the tricky position cleverly and after being third at the first turn railed into second spot on the home bend.

Handsome Prince came away to score by five lengths but Supersonic Blue ran on gamely and in finishing second clocked a slick 22.48sec for the 400m trip.

None of his rivals on Wednesday has gone as smartly at Bulli and given a clean getaway Supersonic Blue should take his record to 10 wins from 47 starts.

Trainer Robert Hancock said: "Until he finished second to Handsome Prince, Supersonic Blue had not been out of the 400m boxes at Bulli so his run was good.

"He finished third to Here Comes Joe up the straight at Richmond on Saturday but was unlucky not to come second as he got pole-axed near the finish.''

Hardest to beat looms as the Kayla-Jane COLEMAN trained Fibrillation, who is new to Bulli but who showed good zip in leading all the way over 330m at Richmond on July 25.

Fibrillation has box one but while he has won five of his 21 appearances he is yet to score in three outings wearing the red rug.

"Fibrillation does want to shift up the track but I don't mind him in box one because he jumps better from inside draws than he does when he is boxed wide,'' trainer Kayla-Jane COLEMAN said.

Sarah Easey, who is juggling home schooling two of her three children, aged six and eight, with training a large team of greyhounds, could land a winning double on Wednesday with Typhoon Ribbons (box two, race two) and Aussie Cortis (box five, race three).

Typhoon Ribbons produced an outstanding performance to win over 472m at Bulli on July 28, overcoming a slow start and powering home along the rails to run away in a nippy 26.62.

"He had box eight when he won last Wednesday at Bulli and is far better suited this week because he is desperate for an inside box,'' Easey said.

"Aussie Cortis didn't have any luck when third over 472m at Bulli last Wednesday and should be suited by the extra distance of Wednesday’s 515m race.

"Last week he got held up at the first turn and ran into the back of the leaders before coming home strongly.''

Stormin' Norman should only need to jump with his rivals to take out the seventh race, a 400m fifth grade.

The Vic Sultana-trained dog came from fifth early to win in a tidy 22.60 over 400m at Bulli last Wednesday and moves from box five last week to box one this week.

"Stormin' Norman is a bad beginner but he is ideally boxed,'' owner Gordon Sciberras said.

"He has returned from a spell a much better dog than he was last preparation and has plenty of ability.

"Stormin' Norman's problem is that he sits in the back of the boxes so he is usually giving them a start when he jumps.''

Toughest rival for Stormin' Norman looks to be Ant Man Supreme, who has had just three races this year.

"He has had a lot of niggling injuries but is going pretty well now,'' trainer Mark Farrugia said.

"Ant Man Supreme has drawn four but having a vacant box outside him will help, although he doesn't seem to begin as well at Bulli as he does at Richmond, where he won on July 2.''

The value bet should be Soul To Squeeze, who looks perfectly positioned in box eight when he takes on Saturday's Bulli winners Calamity Ethics and Outside World in race eight, a 400m fifth grade.

At his most recent Bulli appearance Soul To Squeeze drew box seven on July 17 and charged down the outside of the field to lead throughout in a sizzling 22.38 for the 400m.

"Since he won at Bulli he has been beaten three times over 520m at Dapto but while his first splits there are good he is not real strong at the finish,'' trainer Jordan Tweddle said.

"He goes good at Bulli and I really like seeing him drawn out in box eight.''
