Improve She Did And Rob Collects An Oaks Win

By Michael Cowley
Seven nights earlier, trainer Rob Tyler had a word of warning for his rivals who had just qualified for the final of the Group 2 Ladbrokes Richmond Oaks … “she will improve on that next week.”

Tyler’s bitch Crazy Cool had just won her heat of the Oaks in fine fashion, but he explained she had done in on the back of being “scratchy” all week having pulled up poorly from the heats of the Australian Cup in Melbourne.

“She will now improve on that next week. She’s settled in really well and I expect her to improve a lot now,” he said.

How right he was. On the clock the improvement was minimal, her 30.59s last week to 30.56s this week – just half a length - but she never looked like not winning one of the Richmond club’s annual features.

Crazy Cool speared from box three and those few steps on the mat was as close as her seven rivals would get to her.

“She had a lot better week this week,” Tyler said. “Last week she came off the plane (from Melbourne) and was a little bit flat, and to be honest I couldn’t do much with her during the week this week either, but I knew she would go ok. I am just happy for Bob Jacobsen the owner.

“I love winning any race, it doesn’t matter if I win a maiden at Lithgow, but these sorts of races are great. I guess would call this my home track so it’s a great result.

“But like I said I’m really pleased for Bob because he puts a lot of money into dogs and he is a good breeder and he breeds some very good dogs, so he deserves this.”

The Kerry Drynan-trained Kurios Motion led throughout as the fastest heat winner last week, but she couldn’t show the same speed on boxrise as Crazy Cool this week, and crossed from box 8 to be second early, and that’s where she stayed, finishing 1½ lengths behind the winner.

Third placing went to Super Estrella who overcame an early check to charge home and grab third a further 1¾ lengths away.
