Greyhound Racing NSW is excited to announce today a new match-racing format for the upcoming Group 3 Christmas Gift to be held at Wentworth Park on December 19, the first of its type held in NSW.
The Christmas Gift was last year staged as a four dog feature event, which saw cult hero Feral Franky upset his TAB Million Dollar Chase winning brother Good Odds Harada with Jimmy Casey third and Embye fourth.
But in 2020, there will be eight greyhounds competing, however in individual match races.
To be known as the Group 3 Christmas Gift Shootout, the event will feature four, two-dog match races, with $5,000 to the winner of each match race, and $500 to the runner-up.
In addition, the fastest match race winner will collect another $10,000, with the next fastest dog collecting an extra $1,950 and the third fastest an additional $1,350.
The race is open to the best 8 of any grade and nominations will close on Tuesday, December 15, 2020.
Also on the night will be the Group 3 Christmas Cheer, a $15,000 to the winner event for stayers over the 720m, and a $5,000 Maiden Final for greyhounds which qualify from heats on December 9.
