2020 Golden Muzzle Final

Flying Ricciardo Headlines Gold Muzzle Auction Race Series

By TheDogs News Desk
In June 2019, breeder Lynne Aldous offered four pups for sale at the first Gold Muzzle Puppy Auction by Barcia Bale out of Megalodon and in hindsight, plenty of people would love to ‘turn back the clock’ and be the purChaser of one of those pups in particular.

It’s now well documented that Flying Ricciardo was purChased for just $7,500 by Kristy Sultana and since commencing his career, he has now raced on 17 occasions for the outstanding record of 14 wins and 2 seconds as well as claiming the G2 Black Top and establishing a new track record at Bulli.

Flying Ricciardo has been the flag-bearer to date of the 108 lots that were sold at the 2019 Gold Muzzle Puppy Auction and this Saturday, he will start a short-priced favourite in the inaugural Golden Muzzle Race series for graduates of the Auction.

After finishing mid-field in the Million Dollar Chase final last week, Flying Ricciardo draws Box 5 in the first qualifier where the first 4 place-getters will progress through to next Saturday’s final, and the final winner will collect $40,000.

The toughest for Flying Ricciardo to beat may be his litter-brother, Additional Asset, who arrives at headquarters for trainer Brian Barrington with the record of 3 wins from just 6 starts.
Additional Asset has a smart 22.76 win at The Gardens over the 400m sprint trip and at his 3rd run over this distance, he could be the big improver.

In the second Heat, Vamos Penny, which was a buy back at the Gold Muzzle Auction by her owners Denis Donoghue and Peter McDermott for $31,000, looks ideally drawn close to the fence as she strives to record her sixth win at Wentworth Park.

With a 29.72 personal best at the track, Vamos Penny (Fernando Bale x Chica Destacada) had no luck last Friday night after she was moderately away from a wide draw, but a return to an inside alley, should see her stalk the early leaders and be tough to hold out.

The other two greyhounds from the Barcia Bale x Megalodon litter that were sold by Lynne Aldous at the 2019 Gold Muzzle Puppy Auction will also do battle in the second Heat, with Megla Magic positioned in Box 7 while her sister, IVY CONNIVING will wear the pink rug.

While her more illustrious brother was burning up the tracks, IVY CONNIVING only made her racetrack debut in mid-June and in 10 starts since, has recorded a pair of wins at Richmond over the 400m before scoring on debut at Wentworth Park last Saturday in 30.36.

Due to the Covid pandemic, this years Gold Muzzle Puppy Auction was abandoned but it has since been confirmed that the 2021 Auction will be staged in June next year – with Megalodon whelping a litter of pups to Aston Dee Bee last month, organisers are hopeful that some of those off-spring will be the headline acts and sales-toppers at the next Gold Muzzle Puppy Auction.
