Named after one of the all time greats of Australian greyhound racing, the Zoom Top Maiden attracts a smart group of youngsters each year.

In 2019, the series unearthed a real star, the Neil Staines-trained Lightning Vision who set the track alight with a 24.68s performance.

Lightning Vision would go on to win the TAB Million Dollar Chase Regional Final at Goulburn a month later and in December 2019, would reach the final of the Group 1 Dapto Megastar.

In 2022 it was just the start of what would be an impressive early career for the John Finn-trained Zipping Orlando.

Starting at $4.20, there were concerns where Zipping Orlando would be from his box five draw and after being second last on settling, he showed great track sense to stay on the rail and push through to be just behind the leaders on the home turn, before charging home late to secure the final.

“I’m pretty excited. Going into the first turn I could see him pretty close to them and I thought he’d be very hard to hold out,” Minnie said.

“He’s been good with his early education, and he’d be up there with the best in trials, but as you know they have to do it in a race. So far, he’s ticking all the boxes.”

Zipping Orlando had ¾ length to spare over the fast-finishing Rockstar Apollo, with early leader Len Me Dad a further ¾ length away in third.

The Finn kennel returned to Goulburn in 2023 with two more Ladbrokes Zoom Top Maiden hopefuls and made it back-to-back crowns with the promising Zipping Caleb.

The son of Flying Ricciardo managed to stay out of trouble in the early stages of the race before extending down the wide open expanses of the Goulburn straight for a memorable 4.75 length win.

It was former Group 1 winner Flying Ricciardo's first feature win as a stud dog and Flying Caleb's mother, Zipping Lilly, was responsible for star chasers Zipping Kyrgios and Zipping Maserati.
