The race which was formerly known as the Golden Easter Egg Consolation, essentially remains a consolation event for those narrowly missing out on qualifying for the Egg final.

It was renamed in 2009 to The Ambrosoli in recognition of the contribution that legendary race caller Paul Ambrosoli has made to the greyhound industry, and in particular Wentworth Park.

A Group 3 event, The Ambrosoli field is made up of the greyhounds which finish third and fourth in the semi-finals of the Golden Easter Egg a week earlier.

Among the winners of The Ambrosoli are leading sprinters Cindeen Shelby  and Spud Regis, while 2018 Million Dollar Chase runner-up Jamella Jet collected his first Group win in taking out the 2019 The Ambrosoli for father and son training team, Andrew and Adam Crouch.

The entire Golden Easter Egg Carnival was abandoned in 2020 due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the event was back bigger than ever in 2021.

The field for the Ambrosoli was again a strong one with semi-final placegtter Zulu Warlord strongly tipped to lead and win. He did lead, but couldn't hold off the finishing burst of Victorian Lakeview Walter.

The Andrea Dailly kennel have enjoyed great success on Golden Easter Egg final night in the past and while they had not joy in the main feature event, they did complete the trifecta in the Ambrosoli.

Australian Cup winner Lala Kiwi just managed to hold off kennelmate Zippy Tesla, with Daph's Ascend running on to capture third place.

The win, the 23rd of her career, took Lala Kiwi's earning to over $660,000.

In 2023, Wyndra All Class continued one of the stories of the season with another outstanding win for trainer Daniel Gatt and owners Sue and Brian Barton.

Wyndra All Class led the Egg consolation throughout from Box 1 and stopped the clock in a blistering 29.44 - a new track and trip PB and her 12th win at Wentworth Park.

"She's going real good, she went excellent. She's jumping and I reckon she hears the lure properly in Box 1 and times it perfectly," Daniel Gatt said.

"I'm delighted, especially with the name of this race, in Paul Ambrosoli's honour. I used to get goosebumps driving here on a Saturday night and hearing what his tips were, it's fantastic."
