One of the feature events staged during the annual Grafton Winter Carnival.

Some of the standout sprinters from around the Northern Rivers and in fact Queensland attend the Grafton Carnival with an eye on the Sprinters Cup.

Back in 2013 Dave Irwin's speedy Scissor Queen took out the 407m sprint, while Tony Brett brought Chant down to win the race the following year.

Another to cross the border and win was Darren Russell with Precious Sal in 2017, while prior to winning the inaugural Masters Meteor in Sydney, the Evelyn Harris-trained Cosmic Bonus took out the Sprinters Cup in 2018.

In 2019 it was Casino-trained Painted Picture winning for Mark Wilkes.

The 2020 Grafton Carnival was one of many casualties due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the event cancelled, but it was back with a bang in 2021.

The multi-million dollar new racetrack at Grafton was opened just in time for the 2021 Winter Carnival and it opened to rave reviews, and when it came to the Sprinters Cup, victory went to the Michelle and Michael Lill-trained More Sauce, clocking a flying 25.18s and just holding off the Steve Kavanagh-trained Louis Rumble to takeĀ  his record to 11 wins and 7 second placings from just 20 starts.

In 2022 it was the absolute marvel, four-year-old Fire Legend who showed there was still plenty of life in his legs but sprinting away from a quality line up to register win number 45 from start 107 for Mark Moroney.
