The Bathurst Maiden series is run a supporting event to the Central West club's main feature, the Bathurst Gold Cup.

In the 2020 edition, on the same night Dennis Barnes produced Nangar Diva to win the Bathurst Gold Cup, Nangar Rust, a former member of his kennel, was electrifying winning the Bathurst Maiden Final.

Having only his second start for trainer Michael Hardman, Nangar Rust almost stole the show from his former kennelmate with a dazzling performance.

Nangar Rust indicated he had a massive future with an outstanding win in the $10,000 final, overcoming a slow start which saw him sixth at the first turn and a distant fourth entering the back straight, Nangar Rust then unleashed a powerful run out wide to be second at the point of the home turn, before racing away for an impressive win.

After breaking the 30s mark in his heat and leading throughout to win in emphatic fashion of more than 16 lengths, Special Blend was at unbackable odds to take out the final of the Maiden Series in 2021.

He didn't disappoint, although he was made to work, eventually working his way to the lead and clocking 30.03s to give his trainer Ashley Dwyer a second Maiden victory.
