Unbeaten Hoggards Corner is doing the family name proud and can continue her winning ways at Dapto tonight.
The impressive newcomer jumps from box one in a heat of the Dapto To Bulli Series (race eight, 520m) aiming for three triumphs from her first three starts.
As well as showing plenty of promise, Hoggards Corner is an extra-special greyhound for Nowra Hill owner-trainer Mathew Godden.
“My grandparents had a corner store at Carlton, near Kogarah, during the Great Depression,” Godden said.
“When it looked last year like the industry was closing down, I thought I’d better give my last greyhounds a special family name, so I named her after the shop.
“She’s a lovely greyhound – she has a fantastic temperament and loves to chase – and means the world to me.”
Hoggards Corner produced a terrific late surge to win at Dapto on her last start two weeks ago in a respectable 30.58.
The daughter of Dyna Steal and Gifted Glory also clocked a smart 30.01 on debut but faces some tough opposition in this race.
Tiggerlong Dot (box two) is a city class greyhound who has run 29.73 at Dapto, while Agent Kade (box four) is also a quality performer who won at Wentworth Park last month.
“It’s a very tough race,” he said. “Tiggerlong Dot is the favourite and there’s others here who have won multiple races.
“Hoggards Corner is coming from maiden class and it will be hard for her to compete against these.
“Having said that, box one is obviously an advantage and if she jumps well then she can win this.
“I’d say she’s an each-way chance.”
In other Dapto Thursday action, Silent Crash can score his 23rd career win with victory in the 4/5th grade Dapto Dogs 80th Birthday Next Week Stakes(race four, 297m).
The short course veteran is still racing well, having scored four wins and six minor placings in his last 10 starts and clocked a zippy 17.09 while winning over this distance three starts back.
Natahli Dedee (box one) can return to winning ways in a high-quality www.crownbet.com.au Stakes over the 520m (race six).
The Loretta Rice-trained speedster finished eighth at Wentworth Park on her last start but is a consistent performer, with 18 wins and 12 minor placings from 47 starts to her name.
She has a strong record at her local track and has won three times and placed once in four previous starts from box six.
Big Stink (box four) has won his last two starts and can score the hat-trick in race nine over the 520m.
The Craig Chappelow-trained newcomer won at Dapto last week in a moderate 30.59 but looks the best of this field.
