An entertaining night of racing at Wentworth Park has produced a career highlight for a pair of Parkes owner/breeders, with Gary Abernethy and Mick O'Shannessy picking up their first 'double' in dog racing.
The pair are responsible for three dogs with the prefix "Gazmick" which is a combination of their first names.
Last night Gazmick Jax and Gazmick Bronte both saluted at headquarters.
"It was a big thrill for the owners," Ross Burton, who trains the dogs with his wife Marie, said.
"It was a big few days actually because Gazmick Bronte won Saturday night at Wentworth Park too. She really seems to be enjoying Wentworth Park."
Gazmick Bronte is in purple patch of form.
Back to back wins at Wenty have followed a third placing in town, a win at Gosford and another city placing. It’s the best run of her 46 start career; which has now brought six wins.
"She's just starting to come along really well and if she's going to get comfortable racing anywhere its handy that she's done it at Wentworth Park," Burton said.
Gazmick Jax's recent form has been more mixed.
On Saturday night he finished last at Wentworth Park but Burton had a simple explanation for the form reversal when quizzed by stewards after last night's win.
"On Saturday night they loaded the dogs but we had to wait for a trot race or something so the dogs got pulled back out and had to wait around for a couple of minutes. He was so fired up he'd just about run his race by then," Burton added.
The pair will go around again at headquarters this Saturday night, while kennelmate Gazmick Storm is well placed in box eight tomorrow at Bulli.
