Friday shapes as a massive day for in-form Catherine Field trainer
Neville Brown.
Brown will rug up two great chances in Group events at different tracks, with
Swift Fancy to line up in the Group Two World 4 Pets Richmond Derby and
Tuiaki to contest the Group Three Nowra Summer Puppy Classic.
“I’m pretty upbeat about both of them – I think they’re both really good chances,” said Brown, who’ll be at Richmond with Swift Fancy.
“I think I’ve got the best dog in both races. I don’t need any good luck, I just don’t need any bad luck.
“Some people wait their whole lives to have a runner in a Group race and I’ve got two in one day. I’ve been in a few Group races before, but haven’t won one yet so I’m hoping this might be the day.”
Swift Fancy is definitely the testing material in the $25,000-to-the-winner Richmond Derby after continuing his great run since being purchased by Brown with a near-record heat win last Friday night.
Swift Fancy has won five of his six starts for Brown and was ultra-impressive in claiming his Derby heat in 30.26s, with the other two heats won by
Fox Hand in 30.79s and
Magnifique in 31.01s.
Goodesy was the shock elimination of the heats, running fifth to Magnifique.
Swift Fancy has drawn box three in the Derby, which is race eight on the Richmond card at 9.40pm.
Earlier on Friday, Swift Fancy’s kennelmate Tuiaki will step out in Nowra’s $15,000-to-the-winner Summer Puppy Classic – race six at 5.27pm.
After winning his Classic heat, Tuiaki tasted defeat for the first time in four appearances at Nowra when an unlucky second to Tasman Boy in Monday’s semi-final.
Tuiaki took an enormous amount of ground off the winner and with any luck from box four in the final should provide Brown with the first leg of what would be a memorable feature double.
“Tuiaki’s run on Monday was massive,” Brown said.
“He was giving the leaders 12 to 14 lengths start and only got beaten a length. I didn’t think he could possibly qualify for the final from where he was.
“Swift Fancy’s a super dog – there’s really something special about him. I’ve had dogs since I was 14 and I’ve had some good ones but I’m very excited about him.
“He just keeps getting better and better and I honestly believe I haven’t got to the bottom of him yet.”
