Aims and Objectives
Greyhounds as Pets is a not for profit initiative coordinated by Greyhound Racing NSW. It aims to provide families with a pet that is ideally suited to their needs while giving those greyhounds not suited to racing, or ready to complete their life as an athlete, a new home..
Finding a dog is easy. Finding the right dog for your family, environment and lifestyle is a challenge that Greyhounds as Pets takes very seriously. We want you and your new friend to live 'happily ever after'. For this reason, we ask foster carers and adopters to fill in a detailed questionnaire to enable us to match you to the most suitable greyhound.
All our staff have extensive experience in working with Greyhounds both behaviourally and medically, as well as having a passion for the breed and for further educating the public on what wonderful animals they are. We place great importance on identifying lovely greyhounds with great temperaments and placing them into the right homes. You can therefore trust that your future friend (adopters), or retired racer (owners/trainers) are in loving and capable hands.
Staff are suitably qualified in the areas of Veterinary Science and Animal Science, with extensive Greyhound specific knowledge.
The objective is to improve animal welfare in the greyhound racing industry by providing dogs with a ‘career change’ if they are not suited to, or are ready to retire from, the racing industry.
GRNSW Greyhounds As Pets is very proud to be the first Approved Program under the Greenhounds initiative in NSW. To learn more about Greenhounds (the body administering NSW muzzling exemptions for pet Greyhounds), please see www.greenhounds.com.au or phone (02) 8767 0519.

In coming weeks GRNSW will move to grading meetings on its new OzChase system. To coincide with this change GRNSW is moving to one combined NSW Grading Policy, rather than maintaining separate TAB and Non-TAB policies. Feedback on the changes, particularly as they relate to Non-TAB grading, is now called for.
