What is Betfair Blue Paws?

Betfair Blue Paws is the NSW Breeders and Owners Incentive Scheme that offers owners and breeders opportunities for greater racing returns in NSW.

It aims to promote, develop and encourage increased investment in the NSW breeding industry, hence creating long term benefits for the NSW greyhound racing industry.

The Advantages of the Betfair Blue Paws Scheme

The advantages of breeding and owning a Betfair Blue Paws nominated greyhound are financially rewarding if you race in NSW.

Higher racetrack returns are made by breeders and owners with Betfair Blue Paws greyhounds versus non-eligible competitors as connections receive the standard prize money plus an additional bonus payment if their greyhound wins a race carrying a Betfair Blue Paws bonus.

Since its inception in July 2006, over 8,500 Betfair Blue Paws bonus races have been conducted, with bonuses totalling nearly $850,000 being won by Betfair Blue Paws nominated greyhounds.

Eligibility and Nomination Fees

For a greyhound to be eligible for nomination into the scheme, it must be:

Whelped in New South Wales
Nominated for registration under the Scheme by the registered Breeder or Owner no later than when the greyhound reaches ten months of age; and
Registered with the Greyhound Racing NSW Member Services Department.

Nomination of a greyhound is by way of a fee:

Nominations received for greyhounds aged up to and including six months of age (180 days) will incur a fee of $44.00
Nominations received for greyhounds aged over six months and up to and including ten months of age (300 days) will incur a fee of $110.00

Where are Betfair Blue Paws races run?

Betfair Blue Paws races are run at every TAB and Non-TAB track throughout NSW. Every TAB maiden race carries a $150 Betfair Blue Paws bonus.

A programme of races carrying a Betfair Blue Paws Bonus is published on the website calendar and these will be updated on a rolling three month basis. In addition to the regular programme of Betfair Blue Paws races, a new innovation to the scheme, the Betfair Blue Paws Super Series commences in 2009/10. If the breeder is the nominator of the racing greyhound:

If the owner is the nominator of the racing greyhound:

Breeder	25%

GST Implications

Nomination fees include goods and services tax (GST). Nominators who are registered for GST purposes will be entitled to an input tax credit equal to 1/11th of the nomination fee.

Business or Hobby

For Betfair Blue Paws to make payments inclusive of GST to nominators who are in business and have registered for GST, we require your Australian Business Number (ABN) and a statement that you are registered for GST.

If you do not have an ABN and you are not registered for GST then we require you to sign a declaration stating that your activities are a hobby

Proposed NSW Grading Policy

In coming weeks GRNSW will move to grading meetings on its new OzChase system. To coincide with this change GRNSW is moving to one combined NSW Grading Policy, rather than maintaining separate TAB and Non-TAB policies.
