Certificate II in Racing – Greyhounds (Core Units of Competency) GRNSW and TAFE NSW will launch the Certificate II - Greyhounds pilot training program in March.
The program will provide new entrants to the greyhound racing industry with the skills and knowledge to further their career.
Courses will be offered in the following four regions at no cost to participants:
- Illawarra
- Richmond
- Hunter Valley
- Lismore
Initially the program will be designed to assist a person to gain an understanding as to the care of greyhounds and to meet the individual needs of feeding, grooming, exercising, transporting and keeping the environment safe, clean and hygienic.
Working under the direction of a public trainer the participant will have the opportunity to develop skills to work autonomously and as part of a team. Importantly the caring for racing greyhounds involves a degree of responsibility as well as a duty of care in relation to welfare of a greyhound.
Persons undertaking this course must be: - 17 years of age and be licensed as an attendant or seeking to be licensed with GRNSW; - Have the ability to work under the direction of an approved public trainer as a mentor; - Be available to attend six practical full-day workshops (click here to view when and where the workshops will be held).
Anyone interested in taking part in this exciting opportunity, needs to fill out an application form.

In coming weeks GRNSW will move to grading meetings on its new OzChase system. To coincide with this change GRNSW is moving to one combined NSW Grading Policy, rather than maintaining separate TAB and Non-TAB policies. Feedback on the changes, particularly as they relate to Non-TAB grading, is now called for.
